I thought this was going to be another one of those dead end chases where all I find is someone's flashlight beaming back up at me from the pond of water on some ranch. As it may have seemed to be from half a mile away it looked like nothing more than someone was using the excuse of a freak tornado to proclaim an alien crash landing. Despite my doubts about Thomas Wiggens of the PineyDale tree farm and his sanity I came to the investigation with the slightest hope this was something I was looking for, hard, undeniable evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial life visiting our monotonous lives to perchance give us a glimpse of what may be out there beyond the confines of our own understandings.

The doubt looked obvious to me as I closed the trunk of my rental and saw my reflection. I ignored the man staring back at me in the waxed black and proceeded to the scene. The local police had it sectioned off, a long stretch of about a mile of black, charred skid like napalm had been dropped into the pine grove. At the end of it half in a pile of dirt and roots was, to me at least, a very convincing unidentifiable ship. They had it open already, large sheets were laid out where the contents inside were being placed, marked and documented. A run for the obvious had become the standard to this investigation, one that none of my fellow investigators seemed to be taking very seriously. I had my eye out for the details, however. First, to identify anything remotely resembling our own technology like light bulbs, uncle Bobs chicken wire, anything to suggest this was indeed elaborately placed for Mr. Wiggens five minuets of fame. Nothing really stuck out with me, except perhaps one item on the sheets.

I knelt and flicked out a zip lock from inside my raincoat, picking it up with a gloved hand in hopes I wouldn't diminish any possible finger prints. Settled between a small, broken capsule of cubes that looked nearly eatable and a cash of bizarre tools was a simple hand recorder. Something not only out of the theme of the strange items, but also very human.

"Agent Mulder?"

I stood, turning to the face of a very young field agent who seemed somewhat taken by my presence. I was a little suprised actually, perhaps years of ridicule and bearing nicknames like Spooky for my pursuit of the truth have shied me away from anyone actually admiring something like that. I could see it in his eyes, sparkling like some kid who just spotted David Bowie. I was tempted to ask him if he wanted my autograph but I let the smile remain its own mystery as I waited for him to gather his composure.

"Aren't you agent Curtis?" I asked as my body temporarily threaghtend to lull back to sleep after 36hrs without any. "The field man from the Abshire project."

"Yes," he nodded slightly with a shift of his eyes, denotably troubled by that particular case. "Gemini Curtis. You helped me establish my case against the Maegus."

My eyes widened, my senses awakened to the sound of that name. I couldn't forget that case, no one could. A new sensation of who this kid was washed over me. This was the undercover man we lost into that mans sadistic cult for two months.

"You're back to work a little early aren't you?" I asked.
"I thought you were laying low until the media has died down."

"I requested a transfer to Skinners department," he shrugged. "I guess this is my idea of staying out of sight. The local police arrested someone last night for trespassing. Apparently she was caught breaking and entering and witnesses have stated sighting her wandering around ever since the crash was to have happened. I've already started the transfer of her custody into our hands. Would you care to question her now?"

"Any particular reason why we would want custody?" I asked him as I began to walk back with him.

"Trust me," he smiled as he opened my passenger side, helping himself to accompanying me. "You want custody."
